Andrew Rountree is a criminal defense attorney with thirteen years of experience focused almost exclusively on criminal cases. In 2022, he earned Board Certified in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization—a rigorous distinction obtained by only one percent of Texas attorneys. He understands the high stakes of criminal representation because he has seen firsthand how quickly a life can be turned upside down by a criminal allegation.

Before dedicating his legal practice to defending those accused, Andrew spent 11 years as a state court prosecutor devoted to trying some of the most serious case in two of the largest cities in Texas. In Houston, he was handpicked to work in the Special Crimes Bureau of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and investigated and prosecuted complex criminal organizations. In Austin, he handled child abuse and neglect cases for the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, working closely with vulnerable victims and navigating some of the most emotionally charged cases under the law. Andrew concluded his prosecutorial career at the Texas Attorney General’s Office, where he tried five murder cases to jury verdict, including a cold case capital murder and multiple child death cases.

Andrew’s experience as a prosecutor in some of the busiest courtrooms in Texas gives him a clear advantage in understanding how criminal cases are investigated, charged, and tried. He now leverages this insight to defend his clients. He knows that a client is not a file on a busy prosecutor’s docket, but a real person facing serious, life-altering consequences. Known for meticulous preparation and straightforward communication, Andrew strives to keep his clients informed at every stage of a case while working with them to build a defense strategy tailored to their unique circumstances, priorities, and goals.

Andrew understands that criminal cases are often decided not only by what the evidence shows, but by what is missing. Effective defense work often requires identifying the gaps in the government’s case and investigating facts that the police did not find important, or even just overlooked. Once Andrew identifies the gaps in the government’s case, he conducts a thorough independent investigation to uncover the rest of the story. As Andrew often notes, small and easily overlooked details can determine whether a case is won or lost. As one former client put it, he “uncovered key evidence that proved I was telling the truth, ultimately leading to a dismissal.”

Andrew has tried many cases to a jury verdict and has earned a reputation as a respected and formidable trial lawyer. He treats every case as if it could go to a jury trial, while knowing that thorough preparation and hard work often produce favorable results without the risk of a trial. When a case does go to trial, however, he shows up fully prepared with a clear, disciplined strategy to challenge the government’s case and exploit their case weaknesses.

When not defending his clients, Andrew continues his commitment to public service as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps, advising a battalion-level command on a range of legal and ethical matters. Outside the courtroom, he values time with his family and friends, discovering new restaurants in Austin, and traveling the world with his wife and son. Grounded in faith, family, and close friendships, Andrew strives to bring the same sense of duty, integrity, and personal commitment to every client he represents.
